The running joke in the family for the last 8 years has been about Jack. And where in the heck he came from.
It's true that he was not what I was expecting after delivering Halle with her dark hair and eyes. I was surprised. And maybe I made Greg rewind the birth video to make sure he had indeed been removed from my body.
We are always asked about him. In the grocery store, at church, in the movie theater:
"How did you end up with such a blond haired, blue eyed, little boy?"
They ask.
And I tell them...
"He looks like his birth father."
It turns out that although I am unable to explain how the DNA from Greg and I mixed itself up into blond hair and blue eyes, I am learning that Jack is ALL me on the inside.
I'm beginning to suspect that he may suffer from the social anxiety.
I think a big clue came last Sunday.
Jack turned 8 in September. He was scheduled to have his baptism interview with the Bishop. Greg and Jack got ready and went to the church early for the appointment.
This is how it went:
Bishop: Do you like to be called Jack or Jonathan?
Jack: Nothing
Bishop: I've been looking forward to our meeting today! I was so excited to talk with you!
Jack: Nothing
Bishop: You must be in 2nd Grade. Do you like it?
Jack: Nothing
Bishop: Okay Jack. I really just need you to answer one question for me. Do you want to be baptized?
Jack: Shakes his head no.
He said no!
To the Bishop.
He refused baptism.
And I know the reason. He doesn't want anyone to look at him.
So it has been postponed for another month. He needs some more time.
He's all me.
ALL ME.

Believe it or not the older Jack gets the more he looks like you. He has your eye shape, eyelashes, and mouth. He's definitely your son.
Maybe we should just do Greta's and Jack's baptism together. Forget the rest of the world. That sounds nice right now. :)
Haha...people ALWAYS say the same thing about Annabelle! "How did you get a blue-eyed, blonde girl?" is what they ask and Natalie actually overheard some women in the community talking about whether my mom cheated on my dad or not because that's the only way Annabelle could look the way she does! People are crazy sometimes! Our family is a mix of blue eyes, brown eyes, brown eyes with green flecks; blonde hair, black hair, light brown hair, dark brown hair; curly hair, wavy hair, stick-straight hair, etc. So I know where you're coming from, and Jack is TOTALLY all yours! We love you Jack, and your blue eyes and blonde hair!
Holly- We totally should! That would be so fun to talk about at their wedding!! And the Rhino? You KNOW we're going to go crazy on that thing in the spring!
Nicole- It makes having a baby exciting, that's for sure! I can't wait to see yours!
