Another first...

I was there for her first breath,
her first step,
and her first day of school.

And now her first concert.
TAYLOR SWIFT, baby!

I bought the tickets in December and she has been waiting for an eternity it would seem.

We made a night of it.  We rode the train to SLC, then Trax to Energy Solutions.  The day before, as all our flights were delayed, I thought about what would happen if I missed it.  If I was stuck in St. Louis and missed the whole dang thing.  I formulated a plan.  It included her Aunt Kim picking her up and taking her.  You would have been game, right Kim?!

She honestly had no idea what to expect, but she was excited.  We met lots of others on the train going to the same place.  Halle loved their bright red lipstick, red glitter toes and glittery homemade Taylor Swift shirts.  I told her one day she could do all those things with her friends, but this time she was stuck with me, her mother.  And anyway, lipstick is not allowed at the age of 11 in our house.  Especially red.

Her dad had given her money to buy whatever she wanted.  After a fiasco with a grumpy woman at will-call, we were in.  She chose a shirt, a bracelet, and a glow necklace.  I had planned on taking her to Olive Garden for dinner but getting into the building was such a pain, we decided to stay.  Hence, an arena hotdog...

Looking back, we should have gone to Olive Garden.  There were two different people opening for Taylor.  When the first one was singing he shouted "Everyone yell YEAH!...Everyone yell HELL YEAH!"  Halle looked at me with huge eyes.  She said "Did he just SAY that?"

The second guy to perform went a little nuts screaming and making sounds with his guitar that sounded like the depths of hell.  (Yeah, I just said that.)  She sat with her fingers shoved in her ears.  It was at that point I remembered ear plugs.

And then...THEN it started.  She didn't cry like her mother at a Kenny Rogers concert, but she was mesmerized.  She only stood up when I stood up.  She only sang when I sang.  And she only screamed when I screamed.  So I danced to songs I didn't know and mouthed made up words to songs I didn't know.  What?  I am not as familiar with the Red album.  Taylor sang, played the piano, played the guitar, and did the whole shebang.   It really was a good concert.

Did you know she has a new Ked's line coming out?  We won shoelaces so now I guess we'll have to get some Taylor Swift Keds.

It got over late, and we rode Trax back to the Front Runner, only to wait for over an hour for the train.  We made friends with the women on the bench next to us.  They were slightly drunk and in town for the parade, if you know what I mean.  We all talked about our first concerts.  Mine was Hammer's Too Legit tour.  Awww yeah!  It was an amazing show, the best part being TLC and Boyz II Men opening for him.  One of the ladies said her first concert was The Osmonds....before Marie was born.  A few drunk, shirtless men stumbled around, but I wasn't worried.  I'm sure one of the gals could have taken him out.

We got home late, about 1 am.

I think she had a great time.

I had a great time being with her.

My girls were a little nervous about the guy asking us to yell "Hell yeah!" as well. We all sat there quietly smiling. I just counted on all those Arizonan heathens to carry us through that. But what did they do in Utah? Were people actually saying it? (gasp!) Was the 2nd person to open for her Ed Sheeran? Olivia loves him. He sings two of her favorite songs. Morgan kept covering her eyes and telling me she was going to have a seizure from all the flashing lights. She wasn't a fan at all. Your experience sounds a lot like ours…except that I'm VERY familiar with the Red Album and sang a lot with the right words. :) Glad you had fun. I know these are the kinds of experiences they will remember forever. I would have punched somebody if I hadn't gotten home until 1 am though. I need my sleep. :)
