Well, maybe she didn't say that EXACT word. I know she meant it though.
Sherry was my neighbor two houses ago. We are friends on Facebook and she sent me a message tonight saying:
"hey, will you send me your recipe for strawberry freezer jam? you made some and gave us some years ago (when we were still neighbors) and it's been my favorite ever since :) I'd surely like to make some of my own"
Doesn't that SCREAM legendary between the lines?
Anyway, she's not the only one. I made it with Dixie once, and I think if I remind her how easy it was she'll try it again. Also, I think I may have a chance at buying Holly's new baby with jam. If I caught her hungry enough.
I'm not one of those girls who when they have something amazing, I keep it all secret secret. Nah. I talk/show/and help you with anything! Wanna see my scar? My rash? Wanna talk breastfeeding? Hemmorhoids? Do you have morning sickness and need your toilet cleaned? I'm your girl.
So without further ado:
THIS IS HOW I DO IT...
(It is so ridiculously easy, I almost hate to show you. You may not think I'm so freaking awesome. Honestly,
(Plus, it's July. July is not prime jammin' season. Prime season is in the spring when you can score cases of strawberries for like $5. If you know where to look. And I do. ;) I buy like 5-6 CASES of strawberries and jam all night long. Then I have some to give away and I have enough to last two years. I only jam every other year.)
There are a few things to know here. If you want really fresh tasting jam, do freezer. You don't have to cook the fruit and that makes it taste super yummy!
When you buy your pectin, make sure it's a freezer jam pectin. Mostly because the recipe uses much less sugar than other jam recipes. Some use MORE sugar than fruit. And that's just wrong.
Here, I'll just show you.
Buy this pectin:
Oh man, my cell phone takes crappy pictures. You get the idea.
Mix the package ( its a powder) with 1 1/2 c. sugar. In a bowl. Stir it around and around with a spoon. Like Kool-Aid. If you can make Kool-Aid, you can make jam. I like to use a bowl with a pour spout, but whatever. Stir it all together. I make my kids do it.
HA! I'm like the Pioneer Woman! Do you watch her? I do. I just read her book too. It was pretty good. ANYWAY.
Then you buy some strawberries. Wash and core them and then blend those babies up. Just turn your blender on and pop them in there. How long do you blend them? Until they are as smooth or chunky as you want your jam. Keep going until they get to the 4 cup line on the blender. I make my kids do it.
Then pour the strawberries into the sugar/ pectin mixture. Set your oven timer for 3 minutes and then make your child stir it all together until the timer goes off. If they complain, spank them with the mixing spoon.
Pour the jam into containers and label it. Then make your kids stack them in your freezer in the basement like this:
Hot dog!!! Now, when you feel like toast in December, you can make it!
Your family will be happy:
And you will become LEGENDARY.
Just like me.
