I've never been a fan of the HOA. Not even when my good friends were part of it. I don't like it. I think it's unnecessary micro managing of my very own property. They take my money every month, and do what with it? We don't have a neighborhood pool, or club house, or anything. We have some common areas. I guess they mow and water the grass. Yet, who uses these common areas? I've never seen anyone. And all that gas to mow and water to...water? Sounds like that is downright sucky for Big Mama Earth. Just sayin.
Wanna know what gets me all fired up? The letter I just received in the mail. The one from my HOA. It began "This letter is being sent to you, not to be insulting, but to be informative." Now, I should have stopped right there and burned it. I know, shoulda, woulda, coulda. I read on. It appears that I am in violation of the HOA bylaw cc-4533-DIHLH- itsallBS-324.
THOU SHALT NOT HAVE DEAD FLOWERS IN YOUR FLOWER BED....IN EARLY APRIL.
Were we talking about weeds? No.
We are talking about flowers? Yes.
And they are....in the flower bed? Yes.
And they aren't alive? That's the problem? Yes.
IT'S EARLY APRIL! IN UTAH! It literally snowed 2 days before I got the letter and has snowed once since.
Gosh, sorry I haven't put my snow bibs on and got around to sprucing up the old flower bed. Get of my a**...er... back.
Wanna know what REALLY chaps my hide? It said in the letter "Please see enclosed picture." THEY TOOK A PICTURE OF MY FLOWER BEDS. Then made a copy and sent it to me. Using a stamp. And that's when I realized what I am paying for every month. Gas for I-have-nothing-else-to-do-and-need-to-feel-powerful person on the committee. A digital camera for said person. Ink for their printer and paper to make copies of these pictures. And envelopes and stamps. Ahhh, now THAT'S money well spent.
It's a good thing I actually had done the flower bed the day before and the garbage man had come. I would have liked to shove those dead flowers up his.....anyway. Then they could have spent some of that money on a bill.
Just so happens I know quite a few really nice colo-rectal surgeons.

yes! down with the hoa!!! we get letters about so many things all the time. whatever
I once got a $25 fee for having my Christmas Wreath up past January 5th. No Lie.
Luckily with all my complaining and protesting, I got them to do a "ONE TIME fee waiver as a courtesy, even though I was not abiding by the community's rules and regulations". That's what they said.
Still makes me so angry.
They also give out fines if you leave your garage door open for "an extended period of time"...with no explanation on what that exactly means...exactly how long is an "extended period of time"???
And one last thing...I do not have a driveway and only a one car garage. About a year ago I bought a new car and was trying to sell my old car. It was parked in a designated parking area for 2 days...and what happened??? The HOA had it towed for being parked in the same space for too long. Seriously???? I was so mad!!! and what made it even worse...I didn't notice it had been towed until 3 days later so the towing and storage fees were rediculous!!
Anyway, I could go on and on but I will stop here. Just know that I also HATE the HOA!!!
We don't have anything like that because we are in student housing, but can I just say, "That really sucks!" I agree that these HOA people need something to do and feel they need to control the lives of others.
But sure, charge me for having dead flowers in April, waste the money I send you, and don't even think about those who go without in other countries who would probably eat my dead flowers to ensure their survival...
Maybe you should move to Montana, I don't think anyone has heard of HOA's. They just make sure you cow doesn't wander into their yard.

Well I of course have some issues with HOA's for very different reasons. :) BUT, since moving to this new house, literally 2 weeks after we moved in we got a notice of violation for having our garbage cans out for an extended period of time. The date of the violation happened to be the day we were cleaning our garage out after moving into our house. Oh so sorry, apparently if we want to clean our garage it better only take 10 minutes because we've got a neighborhood to keep looking like nobody lives here. HOA's are freaking lame. Totally agree.
